Art Bergmann’s career began with his first band, The Schmorgs in 1977. He joined the K-Tels the following year, releasing two EPs before changing their name to The Young Canadians. In 1981, Bergmann joined Los Popularos and the band recorded a four-song EP. In 1984, he formed Poisoned and they recorded two demo tapes and a 6-song EP with producers Bob Rock and Paul Hyde.
In 1988, Bergmann signed with Duke Street Records and released his first album under his own name, Crawl With Me, produced by John Cale. 1989’s Sexual Roulette and 1991’s Art Bergmann soon followed and in 1995, What Fresh Hell Is This? earned him a Juno Award. Bergmann released two more albums, 1998’s Design Flaw and 2000’s Vultura Freeway before relocating to a farm in Alberta and retiring from the music racket – temporarily.
After a period of self-imposed exile, Bergmann began writing again and returned to the stage in 2013, performing sold-out shows in Calgary, Victoria, Vancouver and Toronto. Bergmann released a critically acclaimed 4-song EP in 2014, Songs For The Underclass, and his new full-length album, The Apostate, is scheduled for official release on April 8 through Weewerk Recordings.
GERRY HANNAH Many people may know of Gerry Hannah through his 25 year on again/off again involvement with the seminal Vancouver punk rock band the Subhumans. As one of the founding members of that group, he played bass guitar, sang background vocals and penned, arguably, some of the most memorable punk anthems written in North America.
Throughout the years, Gerry has been playing guitar, singing and writing folk/rock songs behind the scenes. He recently released a new solo album. The new album, titled Coming Home, chronicling the emotional history of being a revolutionary living underground, a political prisoner languishing behind bars and a sensitive, insightful, (if often despondent) observer of our current human condition.
Gerry’s current band, The New Questioning Coyote Brigade, combines a sixties folk/rock sound with dark tinges, his solid song writing and thoughtful, meaningful lyrics.
MAC PONTIAC Mac Pontiac is one of Vancouver’s most respected singer-songwriters with gritty tales rooted in tradition. He’s shared the stage with everyone from Wilco to Herald Nix.
His early career was captured in the 1996 documentary “Girlfriend Town”. After a brief hiatus Mac has returned to performing in recent years hosting the Waldorf’s successful weekly series “The Rebel Kind Cabaret & Travelin’ Road Show” which celebrated the cream of our rich roots community, as well as showcases at Chapel Arts and The Railway Club.
He recently recorded new songs at The Warehouse (Bryan Adam‘s internationally acclaimed studio used by everyone from REM to The Pointed Sticks).
